Free Crochet Pattern

....and for those of you that only crochet,  here is a quick and easy crochet triangle scarf.  This is so big, though, that it could double as a shawl.

Easy Triangle Fringe Scarf

Materials:

2 skeins of Monsoon
Size P hook

I used 2 different color ways of Monsoon for this scarf, color S3 and color S6. I crocheted 1/4  of the scarf in color S3, 1/4 in color S4, finished in color S3 and made the fringe in color S4.
Directions:

1. Ch for apx 60”-70”. (I used my “wingspan” as a guide, hand to hand).

2. SC into the 2nd Ch from hook. *Ch1, DC into the 2nd chain* repeat until 2 or 3 sts remain. Ch1, SC in the last Ch, turn.

3. SC into the 2nd Ch1space. *Ch1, DC in next Ch1space* repeat until there are only 2 Ch1spaces left. Ch1, DC in next Ch1space, Ch1, SC in last Ch1space. Turn.

Repeat step 3 until you have 3 or 4 Ch1spaces left.
If you have 3 Ch1spaces: SC in the 1st Ch1space, Ch 1, DC in middle Ch1space, Ch1, SC in last Ch1space. Tie off.
If you have 4 Ch1spaces: Sc in 1st Ch1space, *Ch1, DC in next Ch1space*, repeat once, Ch1,  SC in last Ch1Space. Tie off.
I cut 14” lengths from the remaining yarn and attached the fringe with 2 strands held together using a lark’s head knot (so the final length of the fringe is 7”). Adjust this as desired.

Hope you like this fun scarf! Until next time, Happy Crocheting!

  4. I am just in love with this pattern.
But, I am having trouble understanding the instructions.
I am sure I am putting more into than needed, but wanted some clarification.
On row 2 i get the sc into the chain 2 space, but then the ch1 dc in the 2nd chain is confusing me.
    Can you help?

  5. Kathy, on the 2nd row DC into the 2nd Ch from the hook. Then you Ch1, DC... When you DC, you need to skip 1 foundation Ch, so each DC will be done into every other foundation ch. you will be making a box like pattern or mesh. Does that help? If not, feel free to e-mail me at cornflowerblueblog@gmail.com. Or message me on Ravelry and I can email you a chart.

  6. How many times do you repeat step 3?

  8. Alicia, you want to repeat step 3 until you only have 3 or 4 [ch 1 spaces] left. You should be almost done and your shawl should look like a triangle. The last step should be followed for 3 or 4 [ch 1 spaces] depending on how many you have left. Since we don't measure at the beginning, there is no way of knowing for sure until you get to this step. Let me know if this helps or if you have any more questions!

  9. Just wanted to thank you for this pattern. I made one for myself and I think, of all the things I have made, I get the most compliments on it. It's a personal favorite, as well. Love it!!

  11. Suppose I wanted to make this as a hip wrap or swimsuit coverup - essentially a narrower, shorter version. Would you have some suggestions for modifying the pattern a bit? I'm still a little new with my hook and I'm not entirely sure how best to adjust. Thanks!

  12. Is this considered bulky or worsted weight yarn?

  13. Betty, You are super welcome! I am so glad you like it!!!

  14. Aiknami, Sorry it took so long to respond. (For a quicker response, feel free to email me). I think that even at this size, it would make a great wrap. However, if you have a tiny waist, I would recommend making it smaller. The chain row will full determine your overall size. So, for a smaller version, I would measure a hip triangle wrap that you have or see at a store, and measure the longest side to the triangle (it should be at the top, opposite to the bottom point). That will give you the measurement for how long to chain. Everything else will work out accordingly if you follow the rest of the pattern. I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions and kudos for picking up crochet!

  15. Nathan, the sample shown in the picture is a worsted weight yarn. You can use any yarn that you like, I wrote the pattern so that it would be completely versatile for yarn choice. You could modify hook size, if you wanted, but I used a P with sock weigh yarn, used this same pattern and it turned out beautiful although a bit more summery. You could also use a bulky weight if you wanted something warmer for the winter! I am intrigued to see what you come up with!

So you don't sc into the 2nd chain from the hook like it says? I'm so confused on the ends...I can't get it to go into a triangle...my email is zboutique@outlook.com...THANKS!

  17. How would i start off the first stitch,do i single crochet first and then skip one chain then dc, or is it all in one chain. So it would go like single, space, double , space, single or how would it go?

  18. @jessica McHerrin, after you chained your desired length, you sc into the 2nd ch from the hook. After that you will create a dc into every other chain, making sure to create 1 ch stitch in-between each DC. At the very end of the row, you create 1 sc into the last ch stitch, then turn. I hope this answers your question!

  19. Hi! Love the pattern but a little confused. Are you decreasing in every row? And if so ho many stitches do you decrease in a row?

    ReplyDelete
  20. @Sara... Hi Sara! If you follow the pattern as written for row 3, you are decreasing at the beginning of each row by skipping a Ch1 space in the first set of instructions that state, "SC into the 2nd Ch1space". I hope this helps!

  21. Are you using two strands of yarn at a time one?

    ReplyDelete
  22. @Shawn White. I am not using 2 strands at one time. I crocheted with one color for a bit, then changed colors to give it more interest. Although, you could use 2 strands together... it would just make a thicker scarf.

  23. I have tried making this and one side is longer than the other. What am I missing please?
